Dawn Dorland is an LA-based writer and educator whose work concerns poverty, race, class, and invisible identities. She teaches fiction and nonfiction on the faculties of GrubStreet, Writing Workshops Los Angeles, and at the Downtown Women’s Center, serving the homeless women of Skid Row. A graduate of Scripps College, Harvard Divinity School, and the MFA program at the University of Maryland, where she received full funding and won a teaching award, Dawn’s novel-in-progress Econoline has been supported by six national arts organizations including Ragdale. Recently, she was a finalist for the 2016 Writers @ Work Emerging Writer Award, judged by Peter Ho Davies, and a finalist for the 2017 Annenberg Community Beach House Writing Residency in Santa Monica. Her fiction has been published in Green Mountains Review online, The Drum, and collected in Paragraph; her essays are available at GrubWrites. Dawn’s personal editing and literary consulting brand is DORLAND ART + DISCOURSE.
